James Maude

James is an architect of 30 years experience, a graduate of Adelaide University and a Registered Architect in South Australia and Queensland.

Over the years he has run a small business, and worked with community and professional groups. James has contracted to, and worked with all levels of Australian government.

James has worked on projects of all scales: from remote Indigenous outstations on Cape York to dense megacity hi-rise in Kuala Lumpur.

Managing a flexible, regional architectural practice, James undertook many roles from designer to project manager, quality management to consultation, in the fields of town planning, urban design, architecture and engineering.

Designing for the local climate has always been important to James’ design, with sustainability deriving organically from the building design rather than being a tacked on afterthought.

James also periodically works in Cairns as Studio Mango, and Kuala Lumpur as Leemau Design.

In March 2022 James launched The Blackwood Town Project . This experimental, subscription supported website, will be a re-imagining of Blackwood using art, writing and design.
