• What is Apricot Architecture?

Apricot Architecture is the new Adelaide office of James Maude.

All of James’ practices have been named after a fruit belonging to its regional climate, and that he likes to eat.

  • What do we do?

Apricot Architecture is a consulting architect providing bespoke design solutions for domestic, commercial and institutional building projects.

  • Design Philosophy

We believe in an architecture that is of its place and time, that works with the local climate, to provide beautiful and functional human places and spaces.

We design with a clear expression of structure and form, and celebrate materiality.

Sustainability is built in, deriving organically from the climate, the built form and the users’ needs.

  • How can we help you?

Apricot Architecture will work with you to provide a custom design for your project. We can assist with just a design or full project management through to completion.

Apricot Design Process

Inquiry

During inquiry we soak up information. Hard data like the site, the local climate, existing buildings, town planning constraints.

We also get to know the client, whether an individual, business or organisation.

For houses, what are your passions, lifestyle, likes, needs and wants? Your might have sketches, or an ideas file full of pictures.

We need to spend some time with organisations to understand their structure, purpose, and way of working.

 Synthesis

In synthesis, the information is collated, connections are made, patterns discerned, a holistic understanding of the nature of the project comes together.

While an individual or organisation might have a formal brief, we find that during Inquiry and Synthesis that this can change, or that some clients are not entirely sure what their brief is.

In more complex projects this understanding might be distilled into a formal Brief and Scope Report - a more detailed and clearer explanation of the project to guide the next stages.

Craft

During craft the understanding is formed into a physical design. Massaged and worked upon until the interconnectedness of everything is satisfied.

A consensus emerges as to the design direction, whether from working through multiple options, or going straight to the best fit.

Craft continues in the modelling and drawings of the final design.
